Granite and quartzite are natural stone, cut from the earth — every slab is genuinely one of a kind, and both hold up well to heat. Quartzite in particular is one of the hardest countertop materials available. Both need periodic sealing, since natural stone is porous.
Quartz is engineered — crushed stone bound with resin — which makes it non-porous and effectively maintenance-free, with far more consistent color and pattern from slab to slab. It's a strong choice for a busy kitchen where sealing isn't something you want to keep up with.
